Is bonSplit really free?
Yes, fully free. bonSplit is built as a public utility from the BonApp family so you and your friends can split bills without hassle. No paid tier, no ads, and your data is never sold to anyone.
Why split tax and service equally?
Tax and service charges are typically treated as a shared cost borne equally, rather than scaled to each person's order. If someone should be excluded (for example, a friend who only ordered water), you can adjust this per person on the assignment screen.
What if my receipt doesn't get read correctly?
Bona (our receipt-reading assistant) handles most clearly-photographed receipts accurately. If something gets read wrong (an item gets mixed up, a price is off, or the receipt doesn't get parsed at all), you can edit directly on the review screen before moving on to assignment. Every line can be changed, removed, or added manually.
How many people can split a bill?
There's no hard limit. bonSplit is designed for typical group meals, from two people to a dozen or more. Just add names one by one, then tap to assign each item.
Is my data safe?
Yes. Bill details, receipt photos, and participant names are kept so your share link stays live, and are permanently removed the moment you tap Delete on your bill's workspace page. For bills you never finished and shared, we delete the receipt photo after 30 days, though the bill itself stays. Your WhatsApp number is stored in a scrambled form so it can't be read directly even if our database is accessed by someone else. We don't include any ad trackers. Why do I need to log in with WhatsApp?
Logging in with WhatsApp connects you to your BonLoyalty account, so your loyalty points grow automatically and can be spent across the BonApp family (BonTable for restaurant reservations, BonPOS for transactions, and more). You only need to log in once per device, valid for 30 days. Friends who receive your bill link don't need to log in at all.
How many bills can I split in a day?
One bill per account per day, and the allowance resets at midnight WIB. The limit keeps our receipt-reading costs sane, which is what lets bonSplit stay free. One thing worth knowing: a bill you start but don't finish still uses up that day's allowance, so have the receipt photo ready before you begin.
